About The Royal Britannia
The Royal Britannia Hotel is owners Richard and Yan Wheeler's first Hotel project - both are experienced business gurus and have other businesses in the local area.
Both Richard and Yan have worked very hard over the last 2 years on an extensive refurbishment of The Royal Britannia.
All the soft furnishings have been professional recovered or replaced and the decoration is of a traditional nature.
Ilfracombe has been popular since the 1830's when the Victorians started to visit the area and much of the architecture today is a reminder of the Victorian era. Many of the large, elegant buildings have been converted into quality hotels.
2008 - The Royal Britannia goes up for Sale.
2009 - Renovation work starts.
The 300-year-old pub's history included visits from Admiral Lord Nelson, Prince Edward who went on to become Edward VII and numerous other dignitaries have stayed at this venue.
Mr Wheeler said: "My great-great-grandfather, Sir Hugh Wheeler knew Nelson, so we are hoping to put up his coat of arms on the Royal Britannia".
2010 - Major renovation and refurbishment including putting en-suites in all the rooms throughout the whole of The Royal Britannia and re-building the centre of the building by owner Richard Wheeler.
